Culver City

Culver City Welcome Sign

Culver City is a city located on the Westside of Los Angeles County, around 10 miles west of downtown Los Angeles. It is named in honor of Harry Culver, who founded the city in 1913. Culver was one of the most prominent real estate developers and promoters back in the early 1900s.

Culver City is best known for its television and motion picture production history. Some of the most iconic movies were filmed right here, including titles such as Citizen Kane, Gone With the Wind, King Kong, and The Wizard of Oz. Metro Goldwyn Mayer, one of today’s most successful film companies, built their studios here during the 1920s. These original facilities made by MGM were later converted into Sony Pictures Studios, which is currently the city’s largest employer.

In addition to its rich history in the world of television and movies, Culver City offers an excellent quality of life, with a plethora of attractions, including top-notch shopping and dining venues, an efficient public transportation system, beautiful public art, and so much more.
