Playa del Rey

Playa del Rey, Los Angeles

Playa del Rey is a seaside community located in Los Angeles’ Westside region, about 30 minutes away from downtown LA. Its name is Spanish for “King’s Beach” or “Beach of the King,” which is quite apt, as the community’s views of rolling hills, sun-kissed beaches, and sparkling blue ocean waters are all fit for royalty.

In its early days, the northern part of Playa del Rey consisted of wetlands, before natural flooding to the area was interrupted by the concrete channel containing Ballona Creek. The area underwent rapid development in the late 1920s, after the construction of the Del Rey Hills neighborhood, Loyola University’s (now known as Loyola Marymount University) relocation to the area, and the rise of the neighboring Westchester community.

Today, Playa del Rey offers a relaxing beach town vibe ideal for anyone looking to enjoy a laid-back LA lifestyle. The scenic coastal neighborhood features quick access to many interesting destinations along with unparalleled convenience, with its close proximity to LAX, Silicon Beach, and excellent schools and universities.
